Prometheus: Weyland Seat Belt Label

The image below is from a hi-res promotional photograph from the motion picture “Prometheus.”

This is a fabric label or tag on a seat belt.

It reads, “Weyland MGP – Exoplanet Vehicle Division.”

What I love about this is the near-hysterical attention to detail it is evidence of.

It is not simply a case of slapping faux corporate logo stickers on things.

It’s not even, “Hey, put a logo on the seat belts.”

This is someone deciding to make a custom tag for the seat belts, drawing up the art, having the tags made, and having them sewn onto the seat belts.

It is above and beyond, and it’s one of the things that both of Ridley Scott’s big sci-fi films, “Alien” and “Blade Runner,” are famous for.

If it wasn’t there, you’d never miss it. On screen, you could hardly ever see it. But it is a subtle and brilliant detail and I love it.
