I think this was inspired by a line Martin said in an old episode of The Simpsons. Also possibly by an old Far Side cartoon (“Know Your Insects: Manny, Moe, Jack,” etc). Either way, I’m pretty happy with this one:
“Know Your ABCs – of Science Fiction: Asimov • Bradbury • Clarke.”
I’m not claiming these guys are the end-all, be-all, but I think they’re well enough known for plenty of people to get the ‘joke.’
I deliberately tried to stick with period fonts and colors. The “ABCs” font was based on the masthead of a 1940 issue of Astounding. The colors scheme, too was inspired by ‘golden age’ pulp covers. This was designed for a navy blue background, but it works OK on black.
